IFNIA 2025 – The Rise of the Global South: From the Bandung Conference to Building a Community with Shared Future

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference—a watershed moment in global history when 29 Asian and African nations came together to assert their collective voice in international affairs. This historic gathering laid the foundation for the Non-Aligned Movement and South-South cooperation, challenging the Cold War’s bipolar order and advocating for decolonisation, sovereignty, and economic independence.

The Forum, “The Rise of the Global South: From the Bandung Conference to the Building of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind”, explores the enduring legacy of Bandung and the evolving role of the Global South in shaping a more just and inclusive world order. From the call for solidarity, independence and equality among developing nations, to today’s pursuit of shared prosperity, mutual learning and mutual respect under the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global South has moved from the periphery to the center of global governance.

This Forum brings together prominent scholars, policymakers, and thought leaders from across region to reflect on the historical significance and spirit of the 1955 Bandung Conference, examine the evolving role of the Global South in the changing international landscape, and explore new pathways for peace, sustainable development, and multilateral engagement in the 21st century.
